The noble and pure descendants of the beloved Prophet (ﷺ)
We live in an era where anyone who mentions the family of the Messenger of Allah (prayer and peace of Allah be upon him) is immediately and crudely equated with either a Shiite or a Sufi.
This confusion stems from profound ignorance, and it is imperative that the community wake up and free itself from this myth. Indeed, loving the family of the Prophet (prayer and peace of Allah be upon him) is an obligation for everyone who believes in Allah as Lord and Islam as a religion.
This love is neither optional nor a mere sign of sympathy. On the contrary, it is an integral part of faith and constitutes a sincere expression of your attachment to the Messenger of Allah (prayer and peace of Allah be upon him). He himself affirmed this in these words:
"Love my family for the love of me."
Affection for the family of the Prophet (prayer and peace of Allah be upon him) is not supererogatory, but constitutes a foundation of faith. In this regard, it is reported from Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (prayer and peace of Allah be upon him) said:
"By Him in Whose hand is my soul, no one harbors hatred towards us, the Ahl al-Bayt (People of the Prophetic Home), without being consigned to the dwellers of Hell."
These words are clear and unequivocal: anyone who harbors animosity towards the family of the Prophet (prayer and peace of Allah be upon him) is one of the damned.
One day, the Prophet (prayer and peace of Allah be upon him) took Al-Hasan and Al-Hussein by the hand, brought them into his house, and declared:
"Whoever loves me, and loves these two, as well as their father and mother (Ali and Fatima), will be with me, at my level, in Paradise."
What an immense grace! What reward is more precious than that of sincere love for the Messenger of Allah (prayer and peace of Allah be upon him) and his noble family?
Do you visit your father, your mother, your brother, your uncle, your aunt? And do you also visit the Ahl al-Bayt?
Our master Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
"By Him in Whose hand is my soul, maintaining ties with the relatives of the Messenger of Allah (prayer and peace of Allah be upon him) is dearer to me than preserving ties with my own relatives."
What love and devotion!
Another instructive example is given to us by our master 'Umar Ibn Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), a man of faith, honor, greatness, and authority, who enjoyed a distinguished position in the sight of Allah. One day, he entered our master Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) and said to him:
"O Abu Al-Hasan, I ask for the hand of your daughter Umm Kulthum in marriage."
"She is still young," replied Ali.
"Do not deprive me of this honor," insisted Umar, "I wish to marry her."
Ali ibn Abi Talib finally agreed to this marriage. Later, 'Umar appeared before the companions and said to them:
"Congratulate me!"
"What is it, O Commander of the Faithful?"
"I married Umm Kulthum, the daughter of Ali and Fatima, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (prayer and peace of Allah be upon him). I heard the Prophet (prayer and peace of Allah be upon him) say: "All kinship and all descendants will be severed on the Day of Resurrection, except the ties that bind me."
'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) then added: "So I wanted to establish a relationship with the Messenger of Allah (prayer and peace of Allah be upon him)."
Despite his high rank, 'Umar longed to marry into the Prophet's (prayer and peace of Allah be upon him) family, knowing that their lineage would never be broken until the Last Day.
"Love my family for the love of me." So, do you truly love the Ahl al-Bayt?
Any Muslim would answer without hesitation: "Yes, I love the Prophet's (prayer and peace of Allah be upon him) family." But where is the sincerity? What is the proof of this love?
Just as a believer is asked about the signs of his love for Allah, he can be asked this question: What are the signs of your love for the Messenger of Allah (prayer and peace of Allah be upon him) and his noble family?
Do you visit them? Do you pray for them and greet them frequently? Do you often mention their virtues and qualities? Do you remind others of their noble morality?
Alas, these signs of love have been neglected...
