How Jesus (peace be upon him) escaped to the top of a mountain from the fools
Jesus, son of Mary, was fleeing toward a mountain; it seemed as if a lion were longing to shed his blood.
A certain man ran after him and said, "Is it all right? No one is chasing you; why are you fleeing like a bird?"
But he (Jesus) continued running in all haste, so fast that because of his haste he did not answer him.
He continued to pursue Jesus for a distance of one or two fields, then he addressed Jesus with the utmost seriousness,
Saying: "In order to please God, stop for a moment, for i have a difficulty concerning your flight.
"From whom are you fleeing in this direction, O noble man? There is no lion pursuing you, no enemy, and there is no fear or danger."
He said, "I am fleeing from fools. Go away! I am running away. Don't stop me!"
"What!" he said, "are you not the Messiah through whom the blind and the deaf are healed of their infirmities?"
He said, "Yes." The other said, "Are you not the King in whom the spells of the invisible world have their dwelling,
"So that when you recite these spells over a dead man, he leaps like a lion that has seized its prey?"
2580 He said, "Yes, it's me." The other said, "Do you not fashion living birds from clay, O radiant one?"
He said, "Yes, it's me." The other said, "Then, O pure Spirit, you do whatever you want: of whom are you afraid?"
"With such (miraculous) proofs, who in the world would not want to be one of your slaves?"
Jesus said: "By the holy Essence of God who made the body and created the soul in eternity;
"By the holiness of the pure Essence and Attributes of Him by whom the Sky is ravished,
"(I swear) that the spells and the Greatest Name (of God) that i pronounced over the deaf and the blind were good (in their effects).
"I spoke them upon the stone mountain; it was split and tore its cloak;
"I spoke them upon the corpse: it came back to life. I spoke them upon non-entity: it became entity.
"I spoke them tenderly upon the fool's heart hundreds of thousands of times, and it did not heal him.
"He became as hard as a rock and did not depart from this disposition; he became sand from which no product grows."
2590 The other said: "What is the reason why the Name of God was effective in those cases, while it did not operate here?"
"This infirmity is a disease, and this stupidity is also a disease: why did the Name of God not heal the one, since it healed the other?"
Jesus said: "The disease of stupidity comes from the wrath of God; (physical) illness and blindness do not come from it: they are a trial."
Trial is a disease that brings with it (divine) mercy; stupidity is a disease that leads to rejection.
What marks (the fool) with reproach is God who inflicted; no hand can apply a remedy.
Flee from fools when you see that Jesus fled from them: how much blood has been shed by association with fools!
Air absorbs water, little by little: in the same way, the fool deprives you of your religion.
He takes away your warmth and gives you cold, like someone who puts a stone under your bottom.
Jesus' flight was not caused by fear, for he has nothing to fear: it was for the purpose of teaching.
Even if bitter cold fills the world from one end to the other, what harm would it cause to the radiant sun?
