■ Why Is Love a Spiritual Obligation?

Just like prayer Salah and fasting are outward obligations in Islam, inner love (‘ishq) is an inward obligation. Yes — not a recommendation, not a bonus, but a duty of the soul. Without this burning love for Allah ﷻ, and for the path that leads to Him, something essential is missing in our spiritual life.

Love isn’t just a poetic emotion. It's a command of the Path — just like salat and sawm are obligations for the body, 'ishq (divine love) is an obligation of the heart. The soul is shaped from this pain of longing — the ache of separation, the yearning for nearness. This ache is not a punishment — it’s your proof that your soul still remembers Home.

“Love carries the servant to Allah ﷻ.”

And this is exactly why on the Path of Tariqah (the spiritual road), love has been declared fard (compulsory). Without love, you're just breathing. But with love, you’re alive.

Just look at the state of Majnun!

The old poets used to say:

Majnun’s condition today is something else entirely —
The religion of Layla is his Islam, and everything else is misguidance.

Now don’t get caught up in Layla and Majnun like it’s just a love story. Layla represents the Beloved, the Divine, the Reality behind the veil. And Majnun is the soul gone mad with longing.

Love is fire — wherever it touches, it burns. And this isn’t an ordinary flame, no. Within the hearts of the lovers of Allah ﷻ, there's a hidden furnace — a sacred blaze. If even a tiny spark from that inner fire escapes, It could burn the entire universe to ash.

On Judgment Day, the world will be punished with the fire of Hell —
But Hell itself will be lit by the fire inside the lovers’ hearts.

That's how powerful this inner blaze is.

Put an ocean on it — it won’t extinguish.

It’ll turn the whole ocean into fire.

Compared to that inner fire?

The outer fire is nothing but wood and smoke.

That’s why the mystics say:

❝Whoever didn’t burn in the fire of love —
their joy was never real,
and their love never reached the center.❞

So my dear readers, don’t run from this fire — run into it. Let it burn away your Nafs, your fears, your doubts. That’s the fire that purifies. That’s the fire that reveals the truth.

May Allah ﷻ give us all hearts that burn — not with the fire of anger, greed, or the world — but with the sweet fire of longing, surrender, and divine love.

اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وّعَلَىٰ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
